Problem for November 6, 2009

When solving an multistep equation, does the order in which you use properties of equality matter? Take the equation : 2b - 17 = 49 We have discussed using the addition Property of Equality first and then the division Property of Equality to eventually isloate the variable. Would the result be the same if we were to use the properties in the reverse order? Show all your work to support your answer.

Four zoo exhibits are located in different corners of a sqaure ABCD. At corner A are the monkeys, B are the loins, C are the elephants and D are the bears. The shortest distances from the lions to the bears is 17 meters. Using the simplest form of the radical, what is the shortest distance from the lions to the monkeys?

The sum of two numbers is twenty-six. The greater number is six more than four times the lesser number. What are the numbers?. Be sure to use a let statement to define the varibles you are using.
